Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive arts therapy provides a safe and non-judgmental outlet for you to express your thoughts, feelings, and experiences through intermodal creative mediums including drawing, dance, movement, poetry, visual journaling, painting, and more. Expressive arts therapy can be particularly beneficial for those who find it difficult to articulate their emotions verbally or who have experienced trauma that has left them feeling disconnected from their bodies and emotions.

Expressive arts therapy is more than just making art; it's about reconnecting with your inner child and rediscovering joy, play, and wonder. It’s about creating for the process of creating, not for the end product. Multi-modal creative arts can be a pathway to deepening self understanding. It's not a one-size-fits-all method but a deeply personalized journey to reconnect with the creativity you may have lost touch with.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapeutic technique that has been shown to be highly effective in treating trauma and PTSD. It works by using bilateral stimulation in a structured way to connect with the brain's natural healing processes, allowing you to reprocess traumatic memories and integrate them into a more adaptive and less distressing narrative. By working through these experiences in a safe and supportive environment, you can find relief from emotional distress and develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. EMDR pairs beautifully with trauma focused yoga, expressive arts work, and other body-centered modalities, and it can be effective in moving through issues that feel “stuck” in traditional talk therapy.

Yoga & Somatics

Trauma can be stored at the body level and sometimes traditional talk therapy may be limiting, retraumatizing, or feel as if we are talking around the trauma, instead of moving through it. Integrating yoga and somatic practices into psychotherapy can help reconnect mind and body, allowing exploration of resources for nervous system regulation and strengthening our ability to feel a sense of safety. Trauma informed yoga practice offers choices and fosters personal agency, creating a safe space to explore breath and movement. With over 10 years of yoga teaching experience and specialized trauma and perinatal yoga training, I weave gentle yoga and somatic practices into individual counseling sessions. I also periodically offer yoga based groups and classes.
